● Duties & responsibilities of Addiction Clinics at this time of COVID -19 Pandemic.
Covid-19 Pandemic is grasping the world population and Bangladesh is not an exception to it. Covid-19 infection has been spreading rapidly taking lives every day. Prevention of Community transmission is a major problem everywhere.
In this critical situation all the private De-Addiction Treatment and Rehabilitation Clinics need to abide by the DGHS Guidelines & WHO Guidelines in addition to their own management plan .The Govt. is to allow clinics to procure PPE as a priority for the safety of Medical & non-medical staffs .
The following guidelines should be used as a complementary one but not an alternative to the existing guidelines:
A) MANAGEMENT AT THE CLINICS:
In case of emergency / crisis, use PPE, Face Mask, etc.
Before handling the residents in crisis.
▪Inpatients- Routine one to one support by key workers and online support & follow ups from the respective consultants.
▪New patients- Admission to clinic after medical checkup & corona virus testing to safeguard other residents of the clinics.
*Immunity booster specific nutritional foods and medicines have to be provided to all patients & staff members of the clinics.
** Recreational activities like Outings, Self Help Support Group program, etc have to be arranged within the facilities as alternative options in a rejoicing manner.
***Services to patients have to be provided by virtual quarantined staffs.
GYM- Residents of the clinic will need to maintain social distancing rule at the Gym. Max 4 people at one time in the gym.
PRAYER- Maintain social distancing rule and max 4 people at one time in the prayer room.
DINING HALL- Maintain social distancing rule and use the dining facility .Not more than 6 people at one time including the service staff.
GROUP SESSIONS- Maintain social distancing and split into small groups 4-6 people in the group.
ONE TO ONE- Maintain adequate protection before any physical examination by Doctor & Nursing staffs.
B) RELAPSE PREVENTION IN THE COMMUNITY- online assessment, intervention and monitoring from the clinic to support residents on ‘Home leave ‘ or recently discharged patients from the clinic.
C) AFTERCARE IN THE COMMUNITY- Online support for discharged patients in the community with ongoing monitoring and follow up on medication.
Online liaison with principal carer at home to monitor medication and mental state to reduce emergency situation.
● Duties & responsibilities of the family of Drug Addicts at this time:
Risk management at home-
Monitoring & follow up on
Lockdown advice at home need to be strictly maintained.
Care plan in the community-
Careful, compassionate after care plan need to include monitoring of medication and supervision at home.
Mental Health counselling & support-
Online assistance for parents, family members, careers should be a priority at this time of crisis.
● Duties & responsibilities & type of treatment at this time of Existing treatment protocol of the respective clinic to continue but bearing in mind the regulations of COVID 19 to be implemented.
Expert consultation should be a priority for these vulnerable and immune compromised patients at the time of new admission to protect other patients and staffs at the clinic.
